Hazelwood Castle - York

Our days were short because of the northern latitude.  We did not make reservations ahead so we had to look.  We saw a sign for Hazelwood Castle bed and breakfast. We obtained a room but not in the castle itself, we were in an annex.  It was more posh than we are used to and we enjoyed it.  They knocked down the price because it was getting dark and they wanted to fill the room.   Hazelwood Castle is close to York.  It is a location of battles of the War of the Roses.  Wayne found Demerara Sugar in the sugar bowl.  We were delighted to know that Guyana sugar found its way to Hazelwood Castle.  The grounds would be beautiful in the spring and summer when the flowers were in bloom.  There were hundreds of rose bushes, all pruned down to the ground.  Advertisements in the Castle were for weddings and wedding parties.  What a great place to plan an event!
